EU SST PROGRAMME: FIRST SENSOR SERVICES CONTRACT DELIVERED BY SPACE INSIGHT TO UK SPACE AGENCY

Space Insight has completed the first 18-month contract from the UK Space Agency to provide surveillance observations of higher Earth orbit based space objects as part of the EU Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) Programme, and has begun a second contract. The company is delivering the work using its specialist Starbrook electro-optical sensors.

The SST Programme was initiated in 2014 by the European Council to provide space situational awareness (SSA) to European users. The Programme aims to develop a European capability for monitoring and surveillance of space infrastructure and space debris.

UK participation in the EU SST Programme brings together the UK Space Agency (the lead entity), the Ministry of Defence, the Science & Technology Facilities Council, the Natural Environment Research Council, and Space Insight.

Space Insight has been a specialist provider of SSA (space surveillance and awareness) since 2006 when the company was formed to address and mitigate the risks arising as more countries make increasing use of space and place greater reliance on satellite-related activities.
