Phil Herridge presenting at Applications of Astronomy Conference at Royal Observatory Edinburgh, 13-15 October 2010

Phil Herridge of Space Insight Limited will be delivering a presentation entitled Optical Surveillance of Space at the Applications of Astronomy conference and workshop to be held at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh, 13-15 October. His presentation, to be given on 14th October, will form part of the Conference's Security and Defence strand.

The presentation will offer an introduction to the observation of man-made objects in space, with a particular focus on the symbiosis between astronomy and the surveillance of space. Topics will include overviews of the history of the surveillance of space, the different types of man-made objects in orbit, and their orbits. The current issues in space object monitoring will be explored, including the need to adapt technologies and techniques to suit the evolving population. In conclusion some of the new opportunities offered by the development of a European Space Situational Awareness programme and other international programmes will be presented.
