SPACE INSIGHT MAKES SUBMISSION TOWARDS 2007 UNITED KINGDOM SPACE POLICY [JULY 2007]

Space Insight took up the invitation to deliver a submission towards the 2007 United Kingdom Space Policy document ( here). The Company’s views were quoted in paragraphs 172 – 174 in Section 5, “The UK Space Industry”, subsection “Licensing and space monitoring”, and the full Space Insight submission can be viewed in the written evidence, visible in toto here as memorandum 89.

The reaction of the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee ( here) to BNSC’s funding for Starbrook development by Space Insight was: “We welcome the BNSC's funding for space surveillance. We recommend that future plans for this area, particularly in relation to a possible European project for space surveillance, be outlined in the new space strategy.”

“2007: A Space Policy: Government Response to the Committee’s Report of Session 2006 – 7” states in para 36: “The Government welcomes the Committee's support for BNSC's work on surveillance of space, which is integral to ensuring the security of space based infrastructure. At a European level space is already identified as one of the critical infrastructure sectors within the European Programme for Critical Infrastructure Protection. BNSC will continue to promote the UK capabilities in this area and will outline a vision for the surveillance of space in the new space strategy.”
